Otherwise you get enough junk items from the fodder enemies to sell so you can repair equipment and also buy colas if needed. Play the missions just right and you won't need many colas.

Try not using colas actually. Once you hit level 30 and are done with the story missions you have whats called 'end game' content to play. These are the much more difficult missions that are leading up to Braniac getting his arse beat and kicked off the planet. The first type of missions you'll want to do at level 30 are duos. These actually dont have anything to do with the Braniac story, but rather are harder '2 player' versions of some previous missions.

Beating these will give you a special kind of currency that you will use to buy First Tier gear - high grade armor that you can only get from faction iconic characters in your HQ watchtower or hall of doom. Once you have about 3 tier 1 pieces, instead of just doing duos, you can also do 'hard alerts'.

Some of these are harder versions of previous alerts, and some are story content. These reward you with more of that currency I mentioned, called 'marks of triumph'. Once you do all the duos and hard alerts every day you'll get your full tier 1 set in about 6 days.

Once you get full T1 it's time to step up and start clearing 'raids'. Raids are 8 player missions that are end-game missions that deal with Braniac and any other global threats, like Black Adam. Raids give you Tier 2 armor currency and stronger weapons. After raids you get another set of raids that give currency for Tier 3 armor and involve Braniac invading Superman's Fortress of Solitude, but that's a ways off and we can worry about that later.
